WXPN Welcomes The Denison Witmer CD Release concert, with special guests
The Beggar Folk and Mike McMonagle – Friday, June 3rd

Lancaster, PA – Philadelphia’s taste-making radio station WXPN welcomes International recording artist (and Lancaster Mennonite Graduate) Denison Witmer to his hometown to share a live performance of material from his 8th CD release “The Ones Who Wait” (released April 26). This event takes place in the intimate setting of the Grand Salon in Millersville University-Lancaster’s facility, on Friday, June 3rd (First Friday). The venue, within MU-L’s facility, will lend itself very nicely to Denison’s singer/songwriter storyteller style, characterized as “neo-folk.” His songwriting has been compared to 1970s-era singer-songwriters to Cat Stevens, Jackson Browne, and Carol King. Witmer captures the lyrical honesty and serene, poignant tone crafted by these earlier songwriters, transforming it into something entirely personal and entirely his own.

Witmer tries to make music that is true to himself by embracing the process and not worrying what others might think of the outcome. He explains, “There is no definitive version of any song (recorded or live). What is captured is a time, place, and whatever feeling comes from that. I’ve never liked the idea of making the same record twice.” Witmer explains. “I consciously seek out ways to change the sound and arrangements from album to album.”

The title track from Denison’s 2009 release “Carry the Weight” was featured on the April 23rd 2009 episode of ABC’s “Private Practice”. His 2008 album, Are You A Dreamer?, was produced by fellow Lancastrian and national recoding artists Don Peris of The Innocence Mission.
